While I am featuring only one of the ads featuring "Max" who was the long-time mascot for this auto parts store, Dan Brady’s full post is yet another example of such an illustration being used for multiple businesses over space and time. I have to wonder not only if "Max" was a piece of old clip art but also if he was well known elsewhere. With my experience coming in the radio business, I know it was certainly common for a famous local commercial jingle to be used for other businesses in other cities.

I highly recommend Brady’s Lorain County Nostalgia for any retro/vintage fan. Even if one is not from the area (and I certainly am not), Mr. Brady’s great stories and detailed research will make you feel like you’ve lived there all your life.

By the way…this building is still there complete with the paint-on brick signage. Even though abandoned, it still looks fairly vibrant.
