As one that believes radio is best when it can be heard as radio — portable and always easily accessible for the community it serves — I am very happy to pass along the news reported by RadioInsight that “mvyradio” has returned to the airwaves in the Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts market. Perhaps best of all is that this helps assure “mvy” remains on the Internet for the rest of the world.
Due to having to sell their previous transmitter and giving up their over-the-air presence for a while, the station lost its previous call letters of WMVY. They are now WMVI (plus have now moved to 88.7 MHz with the transmitter registered to Edgartown) but will continue to call themselves “mvyradio.”
For those that missed my previous post about “mvy,” it is one of the best “Adult Album Alternative” format stations in all of the United States. They really do the format right by providing a good balance between new and old, familiar and unfamiliar. Their specialty programs featuring jazz, folk, the Beatles, and Grateful Dead are also very well done.
It’s great that “mvy” got the support it needed to carry on over-the-air. It makes me very happy to change its listing on my Radio page away from being just an Internet-only station. I hope it will stay there for many years to come.
